Canada's job market remained steady in December, holding the unemployment rate at 5.8%.
However, the employment rate dropped to 61.6%, marking the fifth decline in six months.
Overall, 2023 saw a slowdown in employment growth, and December's rate was down 0.9% from its peak in January.
Notable sector changes include a 2.4% increase in professional services jobs and a 0.6% rise in health care roles, while wholesale and retail trade experienced a third consecutive month of decline (-0.7%).
